Positive Behaviour Support
Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is a person-centred approach that focuses on understanding why behaviours occur and developing strategies to improve quality of life while reducing behaviours of concern.
What is Positive Behaviour Support?
Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is an evidence-based framework for understanding and addressing behaviours of concern. Rather than simply trying to stop unwanted behaviours, PBS focuses on understanding why they occur and addressing underlying needs.
Behaviours of concern often serve a purpose for the person — they may be communicating an unmet need, trying to escape an uncomfortable situation, or seeking sensory input. By understanding these functions, we can develop strategies that meet the person's needs in more positive ways.
PBS is now a requirement under the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Framework for any participant who displays behaviours of concern or requires restrictive practices.

How we develop and implement positive behaviour support.
Assessment
Comprehensive functional behaviour assessment to understand the person, their environment, and the function of behaviours.
Planning
Development of an individualised Behaviour Support Plan with proactive and reactive strategies.
Implementation
Training and support for families, carers, and support workers to implement the plan consistently.
Review & Adjust
Regular monitoring and adjustment of strategies based on outcomes and changing needs.
What We Provide
Who We Support
NDIS Funding
PBS is typically funded under NDIS Capacity Building (Improved Daily Living) budgets. We can help you understand how to access this funding in your plan.
About Restrictive Practices
Restrictive practices are any practice that restricts a person's rights or freedom of movement. Under the NDIS, these must be:
- Included in a registered behaviour support plan
- Authorised by the relevant state authority
- Used only as a last resort and for the shortest time possible
- Subject to regular review with a view to reduction and elimination
Our PBS practitioners can assist with the authorisation process and develop plans that aim to reduce and eliminate the use of restrictive practices over time.
