Common questions

Do I need a referral to see the psychiatrist?
Yes. Talk to your GP about a referral to Dr Hughes. Your GP, or another referring practitioner, can then send it through our online psychiatry referral form, and our team will contact you about an appointment.
Is psychiatry bulk billed?
No. Psychiatry appointments are private consultations. The initial consultation is $700 and follow-up appointments are $500. Contact reception to confirm fees and any rebate that may apply to your situation before you book.
What is the difference between a psychiatrist and a psychologist?
A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who can assess and diagnose mental health conditions and prescribe medication. A psychologist provides talking therapies such as CBT and is not a medical doctor. Many people see both. Your GP can help you decide which is right for you.
